Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life

Here are some photos of the children's version of Gustav Klimt's "Tree of Life". I love their unique interpretations of this very interesting tree as well as their use of gold to highlight certain aspects. Another beautiful art project by the boys and girls!

Have a lovely weekend.

Heart Rate Lab

Today the children conducted an experiment during their Science lesson. The boys and girls predicted their resting heart rate and then, in groups, they recorded one group member's resting heart rate and then heart rate after 2, 4, and 6 minutes of running on the spot. The children discovered that the heart speeds up during exercise in order to deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles. The groups worked very well together with one person acting as group leader and time keeper, one the "exerciser", and one the recorder. Here are a few photos from during the experiment. Enjoy!

A few reminders and Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life

Just a few reminders for this week:
-Civvies Day on Wednesday (20th January) with a $2 donation for "Hope for Haiti". Wentworth is raising money for Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders)in their effort to help people in Haiti following the devastating earthquake.
-#1 Uniform on Thursday (21st January)for the Open House

I have posted some photos from art on Friday. The children studied Gustav Klimt, in particular, Klimt's "Tree of Life" (1909).

SCIENCE WORLD

We had our first trip of 2010 today with a fantastic outing to Science World. It was a busy day with an IMAX film on the Human Body and time to explore various exhibits. We concluded with a lab on "Grossology", which included learning about some of the "gross" aspects of the human body. Many thanks to Mrs. Connell for accompanying us on today's trip. The boys and girls represented Collingwood beautifully, as usual.

Welcome Back and Happy New Year!

Welcome back, everyone!I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season with your respective families. We are right back into the swing of things in 5S and the boys and girls were super today.
As you know, we have a class trip to Science World on Thursday. This is a full day trip (within normal school hours) and the following is some information pertaining to the day:
• number 1 uniform
• a snack and lunch (no microwave access)
• the children will be carrying their lunch with them so it would be super if it could be in a small backpack
• regular drop off and pick up times (we are leaving straight away in the morning and we are due back to Collingwood at approx. 3pm)

Thanks and have a lovely evening!
