OLYMPICS!

We had a SUPER Olympic Assembly this morning--all the boys and girls looked fantastic in their red and white! We were also lucky this morning to have a very special guest, Mr. John Zaplatynsky, come to our school with his Olympic torch. Mr. Zaplatynsky, an Olympic torch-bearer, gave a heart-warming presentation at our assembly and he even visited our classroom afterwards to allow all the children to hold the torch. Many thanks to Mr. Zaplatynsky!

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Olympic holiday. I look forward to seeing you in March :)

Class 5S uses itouch

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to use some "itouches" in our classroom. Each itouch had been pre-loaded with educational applications focusing on math, grammar, drawing, and reading. The children were allowed to explore their itouch and the applications with a partner.

Heart Dissection

This morning the boys and girls in 5S dissected a pig's heart for our study of the human body. We were very lucky to have Carolyn (Stefan's mum, also a nurse), Kelsey (a medical school student), and Tom (a medical school student) to lead our dissection. We were also fortunate to have Arran's dad photo-documenting the whole morning for us. Many thanks to all of the volunteers for their invaluable help. I was very proud of all the children as they approached the dissection with mature attitudes and were eager to locate all the structures of the heart they had been studying. Kelsey and Tom led the children through a power point presentation showing each step of the dissection. The boys and girls were able to locate the major structures of the heart as well as describe the path of blood through the heart and lungs. Many of the children announced that they want to be doctors now :)Well done to everyone!
