Grade 5 Party

Good times were had by all at the Grade 5 Year End Party. The fun kicked off with a delicious bbq, followed by games in the gym with the PE teachers. The grand finale was the dance dj-ed by our very own RJ! Everyone had a wonderful time and many thanks to Bella's mum, Arran's mum, and Madison's mum for arranging the food and helping with the party.

Community Day 2010

The students in 5S danced in Wednesday's assembly to promote Community Day 2010, which is this Saturday 5th June. They wore the official school t-shirt for Community Day which represents the the theme "The World is Changing Hands". The boys and girls were fantastic and they really got their fellow students to get excited about Community Day this year.

Canadian Government and "Close-Up" Art Display

Here are some photos of our latest classroom displays. The children have been working hard studying the three levels of Canadian Government. A recent art project involved looking at extremely close-up images from the Nikon Small World Gallery http://www.nikonsmallworld.com/gallery/year/2005/9 and drawing them using pencil sketching and pencil crayons. Enjoy!

Making Naan Bread

Yesterday, Derek's mum came into 5S and led the children in making naan bread. This activity links in directly with our study of the novel, "The Breadwinner". We had an excellent discussion surrounding naan bread and how it would be made and consumed in Afghanistan. The children enjoyed making and eating the bread! Many thanks to Cathy for leading this activity.
